Not so long ago, we had this kind of garbage:
"I'm the commander - see, I don't need to explain - I don't need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being the President. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don't feel like I owe anybody an explanation." - George W. Bush, Washington Post, 11-19-02
"Why should we hear about body bags and deaths and how many, what day it's gonna happen? It's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?" - Barbara Bush, said on 'Good Morning America' the day before the Iraq war started, New York Times, 01-13-03
"Two things made this country great: White men & Christianity. The degree these two have diminished is in direct proportion to the corruption and fall of the nation. Every problem that has arisen (sic) can be directly traced back to our departure from God's Law and the disenfranchisement of White men." - State Rep. Don Davis (R-NC), emailed to every member of the North Carolina House and Senate, reported by the Fayetteville Observer, 08-22-01
"My biggest fear is going to be going to the funeral of some young Iowa man or woman who dies in this conflict and having their mother or father come up to me and ask whether or not their son or daughter died for America, or died to save Bill Clinton's presidency. I don't know what I would say to those grieving parents. For that reason I believe the President must resign immediately." - Rep. Jim Nussle (R-IA), Congressional Record, H11963, 12-18-1998
"More Muslims have died at the hands of killers than - I say more Muslims - a lot of Muslims have died - I don't know the exact count - at Istanbul. Look at these different places around the world where there's been tremendous death and destruction because killers kill." - George E. Bush, Washington, D.C., Jan. 29, 2004
"King Abdullah of Jordan, the King of Morocco, I mean, there's a series of places - Qatar, Oman - I mean, places that are developing - Bahrain - they're all developing the habits of free societies." - George E. Bush, Washington, D.C., Jan. 29, 2004
"I glance at the headlines just to kind of get a flavor for what's moving. I rarely read the stories, and get briefed by people who are probably read the news themselves." - George E. Bush, Washington, D.C., Sept. 21, 2003
"And so, in my State of the - my State of the Union - or state - my speech to the nation, whatever you want to call it, speech to the nation - I asked Americans to give 4,000 years - 4,000 hours over the next - the rest of your life - of service to America. That's what I asked - 4,000 hours." - George E. Bush, Bridgeport, Conn., April 9, 2002
"And so, in my State of the - my State of the Union - or state - my speech to the nation, whatever you want to call it, speech to the nation - I asked Americans to give 4,000 years - 4,000 hours over the next - the rest of your life - of service to America.   Al Franken, on Conan, said something along these lines: At 22, Al Gore went to Viet Nam because he knew if he didn't someone else from his town would have to. At 22, George Bush's Daddy got him in the National Guard. At 30, Al Gore was a congressman, George Bush was drunk. At 35, Al Gore was a US Senator, George Bush was still drunk, doing cocaine, and losing his Daddy's money. As someone put it, he couldn't find oil in Texas.
George Bush likes to present himself as a straight-talking, regular guy. But it's an act -- regular guys don't go to Andover Prep, Yale and Harvard Business School, and straight-talking guys don't pretend to be regular guys after growing up in one of the most privileged homes in world history. Not only was Bush's dad president, his grandpa was a U.S. Senator and wealthy Wall Street banker, and his mom's blueblood family owned (among other things) the estate in Maine that Bush still hangs out at. Now, as Bush's regular guy act is wearing thin, some of his other deceptions are becoming more obvious.
"I've been to war [sic]. I've raised twins. If I had a choice, I'd rather go to war." -- George W. Bush, flat out lying in 2002.
"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?" - George W. Bush
